Gold’s Gym Egypt signs partnership deal with DNAFit

UK-based DNA profiling company DNAFit will start offering its services to members of the Gold’s Gym health club chain in Egypt.

The partnership deal, signed earlier this week, will see members being able to plan out their individual fitness goals not only based on expert advice by Gold’s Gym staff, but with the guidance of their genetic make up.

Personalised reports will explain details such as members’ response to power or endurance exercise, food sensitivities, and recovery time.

Each member will also be given training in order for them to read and understand the reports.

Mohamed Nassif, chair of Gold's Gym Egypt said: "We’ve been the leader in the fitness industry in Egypt for the last 20 years and we recognize that these new types of technologies are fundamental to securing the ongoing expertise needed in order to provide the best services to our staff and members."

DNAFit’s head of sport science, former Olympic sprinter and bobsledder Craig Pickering, said: "Each person will improve with fitness training – how much they improve can be increased based on what we are able to know about their DNA."

DNA profiling has become widely used in professional sports, where clubs and high profile sports athletes are keen to analyse whether or not they are getting the most out of their sporting genes.

As the technology improves and has become more affordable, it is also becoming a trend for premium health and fitness clubs.

Launched in 2013, DNAFit earlier this year secured a similar partnership deal with Israel’s largest health and fitness chain, Holmes Place.
